Although we 'trap it all', these are the main types

of animals that we take care of for you.

Beavers create dams by blocking water flow with sticks and logs, which can plug culverts and drainage ditches causing flooding to roads and private property. This flooded land turns into ‘wetland’ areas and then becomes protected and unusable while property value decreases. Erosion may be caused bank dens being dug too close to the surface. Destroy man-made dams by excessive burrowing into these structures and causing excessive drainage. Trees up to 3 feet in diameter can be felled and larger trees can be girdled. Girdling removes the bark completely around a portion of a tree trunk, killing it. Even partially girdled trees can suffer. Chewed trees can fall on houses and structures. From these, sharp stumps are left behind which can prove fatal for people.
Raccoons will build nests in attics, walls and chimneys, and chew on the outside the house. They can also carry rabies. Raccoons carry fleas and mites -can transfer to pets or living space. Raccoon feces can impair the respiratory system through inhalation of airborne particles and are also commonly infected with a roundworm known as Baylisascaris. If the eggs are ingested by humans, they can cause nausea, organ malfunction, blindness, loss of muscle control and even cause death. Extreme caution is advised to avoid any contact.
Foxes are known to take small livestock and pets. Can carry mange or other diseases contagious people, pets and livestock. Damage can be difficult to detect because the prey is usually carried from the kill site and uneaten parts may be buried.
Rodents can carry disease. Mouse droppings can carry the deadly Hanta Virus. Can contaminate food storage. Chewing on anything and everything in a house. Multiply rapidly.
Skunks tend to burrow out their dens, which can cause weaknesses in porches, decks, sheds and foundations. The area sprayed by a skunk can retain the noxious odor for months. The odor can enter the ventilation system and can spread quickly throughout a building.
Snakes cause no property damage, but seeing a snake or its shed skin may frighten some people. They will enter a houseinsearchofrodents and insects and also to escape the heat of the day. If there is a rodent problem, there also may be a snake problem. Signs of snakes may not be visible other than seeing a shed snake skin. Some snakes can also be venomous, thus becoming a health hazard.
Squirrels will build nests in attics, chimneys, vents, roofs and walls, and chew on the inside and outside of the house. Roof entry can cause water damage to inside of the house. They will use a wide variety of nesting material including insulation, drywall, paper and dry leaves. They oftentimes expire inside of walls and ceilings leaving a terrible odor. Their large, dry nests provide the perfect conditions for a fire hazard.
Woodchuck damage often occurs farms, in home gardens, orchards, nurseries and around buildings. Damage to crops can be costly and extensive. Holes can be dangerous to people and/or livestock. Tunneling around houses can can cause weaknesses in porches, decks, sheds and foundations. Expired animals underneath porches, decks or sheds can be costly to remove and cause offensive odor.
Bats are one of the most common carriers rabies. Health departments in Virginia recommend rabies treatments if exposed
If inhaled, airborne particles from bat droppings (guano) can cause histoplasmosis, which is characterized by flu-like symptoms. The very young, very old and those with impaired immune systems are at greatest risk for severe illness. Bat droppings must be removed -the longer an area is left untreated in which bats are dwelling, the chances for airborne illness increases.
